  1.                   INSTALLING / RUNNING THE PROGRAM

  5. This file contains installation instructions and other important
  6. information.
  7.  
  8. Shareware distributors who wish to distribute this program should
  9. read the file VENDOR.DOC for information on our distribution
  10. policy.  This file also contains information that may help you in
  11. evaluating and writing descriptions for this software in your
  12. catalog, on your BBS or however you distribute shareware.
  13.  
  14. The file SHAREWAR.DOC describes what shareware is, for those who
  15. may be new to shareware.  It also describes our registration
  16. policy, how to go about registering, what you get with registra-
  17. tion and the ASP Ombudsman statement.  The Association of Shareware
  18. Professionals (ASP) sets standards for shareware authors (like
  19. Gamma Software) to ensure that shareware works for you (the end
  20. user).

  23. INSTALLING / RUNNING THE PROGRAM
  24. --------------------------------
  25. Since this program is distributed through shareware we cannot
  26. completely control the format in which you receive your copy.  The
  27. first step in installing this software is to get it into a
  28. directory on your hard disk.  All the files must be in the same
  29. directory.  The steps necessary to do this will vary depending on
  30. the format in which you received your copy.

  32. This may involve uncompressing the files if you received them
  33. in a compressed format.  For example, if there is a file with a
  34. .ZIP, .ARC or .LZH extension (these are the most common, there are
  35. others).  The vendor should provide you with the necessary
  36. instructions and tools to accomplish this.

  38. If the files are not compressed then you can simply copy them to a
  39. directory on your hard disk.  See your DOS manual for information 
  40. on how to make a directory and copy the files.
  41.  
  42. Once the files are in a directory on your hard disk, go through
  43. the "Installation" and "Getting Started" sections of the manual.
  44. The "Installation" section also contains information on running the
  45. program on a floppy disk only system.

  48. PRINTING THE MANUAL
  49. -------------------
  50. To print the manual enter the following command.
  51.  
  52.    C:\APCAL\APCAL
  53.  
  54. Replace the text "C:\APCAL" with the directory in which you loaded 
  55. APCAL.  Press the Tab key until the "Print Manual" option is 
  56. highlighted.  Make sure your printer is on and on-line.  Then press
  57. the Enter key.  The program will display a menu telling you how many
  58. pages the manual requires to print.  Press the Y key and Enter to 
  59. print the manual.

  62. THE SHAREWARE MESSAGE SCREEN
  63. ---------------------------- 
  64. The first screen has a brief message describing shareware and has
  65. options for registering, printing the manual and bringing up a list 
  66. of what you get with registration.  You are initially placed in the 
  67. "Enter X to continue." field.  To continue on to the rest of the 
  68. program simply type the letter that follows "Enter" (note - it must 
  69. be capital).
